Small chips are the easiest part of Formica countertop repair. You need laminate repair paste. Hardware stores carry it in dozens of colors. Mix two or three shades until it matches your specific pattern.
Before you touch the counter, clean the area. Use an ammonia solution to cut through grease and grime. Let it dry completely. Moisture under the paste means failure.
Use a putty knife to spread the paste over the damaged spot. Do not rush this. Follow the drying time on the package exactly. Once it is hard, wipe away the excess around the edges. Clean the area again. The chip should be invisible.
Why use countertop polish for minor damage
If the damage is just surface scratches, countertop polish works. It fills the lines and restores shine. But be honest with yourself: this is temporary.
You will need to reapply it every couple of months. If you are not willing to maintain that routine, skip the polish and go straight to the paste for anything deeper.
How to repair peeling laminate edges
Peeling edges look bad and trap dirt. Contact cement is the fix.
If the edge is barely lifting, clean the area and apply fresh contact cement. Press it down.
